Gina Lopez Legacy

Increase the impact of giving and love.

A well-known environmentalist and philanthropist, Gina Lopez began the Foundation’s core programs, notably Bantay Bata 163 (promoting child welfare) and Bantay Kalikasan (environment protection).

Gina Lopez also served the Philippine government as Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources during which we she was able to close destructive mining operations and to put a stop to open pit mining. She pioneered impactful projects such as Educational Television (ETV), Bantay Bata 163, the La Mesa Watershed reforestation, and the Pasig River clean up.

Lopez (born Dec. 27, 1953) succumbed to a battle with cancer on August 19, 2019. AFI’s other programs and campaigns continue to be inspired by her legacy.
